Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) refers to a range of symptoms plaguing 75% of women between 15 and 50 years of age. These include crankiness, bloating, back and head aches, weight gain, breast tenderness, fluid retention, fatigue, low libido, depression and irritability commencing around ten days prior to menses. “Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder” (PMDD) is more severe with feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, anxiety, and irrational behavior.
These are symptoms of “estrogen dominance” resulting from abnormal estrogen stimulation which causes excessive cell multiplication. Estrogen dominance is:
1) over production or improper elimination of estrogen
2) dietary or environmental chemicals
3) progesterone deficiency
4) low estrogen with very low progesterone usually occurring postmenopausally
5) subnormal levels of all hormones which occurs after ovaries are
removed.
PMS is treated with diuretics, dietary changes, thyroid supplements, herbs, acupuncture, vitamin and mineral supplements which may partially address the cause. PMDD is treated with antidepressants, tranquilizers and birth control pills all of which have intimidating side effects. Topical bioidentical (natural) micronized progesterone provides estrogen balance with immediate relief of irritability and anxiety while fibrocystic breast tissue and small uterine fibroids should dissipate within a year.
A large study concludes that a low progesterone level in women between 35 and 50 years of age results in a breast cancer death rate 5.2 times average while the death rate from all cancers is ten times as great.
A simple home collection saliva test kit measures hormones which can then be supplemented using very effective topical creams.
PMS may be the harbinger of Type II (adult onset) diabetes in postmenopausal women which is accompanied by a cardiovascular death rate ten times average. These deaths are greater than the combined total of the next five causes of death of women.
