Metrogel (Metronidazole) Information

Metrogel is a brand name for metronidazole which is used to treat rosacea. Rosacea is a skin infection visible on the forehead, nose, cheeks with redness and inflammation. In 1989, metronidazole was endorsed as the first topical medication to specifically treat rosacea.

How Metrogel works?
Metrogel constitutes anti inflammatory and anti bacterial properties. These properties of Metrogel can lessen the inflammation, redness and acne like rash, which are the characteristics for rosacea. Thereby, Metrogel is effectual in treating rosacea.

Metrogel dosage
Before applying Metrogel, wash the affected area with mild soap and water. Pat it dry, and apply a small amount of Metrogel on the affected area, rubbing it gently. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Incase, it is time for your next dose continue with your scheduled dosage. Do not over dose use of Metrogel.

Metrogel precautions
Some of the precautions which you should take in consideration while using Metrogel such as:

» Avoid applying Metrogel near the area of the mouth, eyes or vagina.
» It is advisable not to use any other cream along with Metrogel as it may reduce the effectiveness of both medications.
» Do not indulge in usage of any other skin medication without prior consultation of your doctor.
» Notify your doctor concerning your medical record including chronic illness, alcohol or drug abuse amid others to avoid any medical complications.
» Metrogel is solely used for external purposes.
» Shelve Metrogel at room temperature below 30 degrees, away from the reach of children.

Metrogel side effects
Metrogel is a well-tolerated rosacea medication, though it may source some side effects such as nausea, watering of eyes, skin irritation including stinging, and dryness amid others. Ask for immediate medical support if rosacea does not improve even after 3 weeks of rosacea usage.
