The Kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located behind the ribs and linked to the back wall of the abdomen. Kidney Cancer, also known as Renal Cancer, occurs when cells in the Kidneys begin to grow uncontrollably. Kidney Cancer normally does not have any signs or symptoms in its early stages, which makes it difficult to diagnose. However, as the tumour develops with time, symptoms may appear.  According to Dr Atul Ingale, Consultant Nephrologist & Transplant Physician, Director-Dept. of Nephrology, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi(Mumbai), symptoms of Kidney Cancer can be as follows:

Blood in the urine (Hematuria)

The appearance of blood in the urine is an alarming sign of Kidney Cancer. As per National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, urine with haematuria may appear pink, red, or brown. It is important to remember that blood in the urine can also be an indication of other urinary tract diseases, thus further investigation is required.

A lump or mass in the Kidney area or lower back

An abnormal mass or lump in the belly or on the side of the body might be an indication of Kidney Cancer. Abdominal swelling or muscular growth is also a possible sign of Kidney Cancer.

Unexplained fever for a few weeks

In some cases, kidney cancer may cause fever. While this symptom is less common, it can be indicative of the cancer's effect on the body. It is important to consider it alongside other signs and symptoms.

Unintentional weight loss

Patients with kidney cancer may experience sudden unexplained weight loss. This symptom can be attributed to the body's metabolic changes due to cancer. It is important to seek medical advice if you notice significant weight loss without apparent cause.
