How Long is Long Enough?

Posted in Men's health by admin on the May 18th, 2009

Open and honest sex talk has always been obscure among men. With locker room braggarts it’s no wonder that men sometimes have performance anxiety. Sure, they’ll divulge how many partners they’ve had, and a myriad of other spectacular bedroom stunts they’ve pulled off, but there is no guarantee that they’re telling the truth. Many men believe that good lovers last 20-60 minutes.

The truth is that the average man lasts 3-4 minutes once inserted. According to Kinsey’s findings 17.6% of men last less than 2 minutes and 47.6% last between 2 and 5 minutes once inserted.

If we’re gonna time sex then when does the meter start? Is foreplay included? Does the flirtatious conversation at dinner count, or just the foreplay that takes place in the bedroom?

Premature ejaculation: Ejaculation occurring before either partner wishes it to take place in over 50% of interactions.

Given inaccurate information about how long they’re expected to last many men fear that they suffer from premature ejaculation. But, premature ejaculation occurs when ejaculation takes place before both partners wish in over 50% of interactions.

Occasionally a man will be so caught up in the moment that he’ll finish before he wants to, or he will orgasm before his partner has had the opportunity. Taken alone neither of these constitute as premature ejaculation and are nothing for a man to worry about. Remember, ejaculation has to occur early in over 50% of interactions to qualify as premature ejaculation.

If sex is measured as the sum of its parts, foreplay, intercourse, and after-play, as opposed to just coitus men wouldn’t have to be worried about lasting for a specific amount of time. If both partners enjoy themselves and are emotionally and physically fulfilled who cares how long it takes!
