Contact Lenses - All About Them
There is a wide range of contact lenses available in the market. These lenses are worn for different reasons, like for correcting the vision, for changing the eye color, etc. If you are planning to buy contact lenses for yourself, even if it is just for changing your eye color, you should first consult your eye doctor. You should understand that just like you buy shoes according to your size, your contact lenses should also be made to fit your eyes.
Your doctor will examine your eyes, and advise you whether you can use contact lenses or not. The chances of the doctor giving a negative reply are very rare, as almost everyone can wear contacts. So, once the doctor has assented, you will be faced by many options, like whether you would go for soft contacts or rigid ones. Both have their own positives and negatives, like soft contacts, though not very durable, are easy to adjust and comfortable to wear, as they are made up of mostly water, whereas rigid lenses take more time to adjust to, but have a longer life and provide a sharper vision. The type of contacts you choose, soft or rigid, determines the number of times you will need to replace them.
Rigid contacts need not be replaced before two years. Soft lenses are sometimes disposable and can be thrown away after use. Naturally, there is no hassle of cleaning involved with these disposable contact lenses. Another variety of soft contacts can last for a as much as a week to many months before they need replacement.
Conventional soft contacts are replaced every year. The exact lifespan of contacts depends upon our individual eyes. Some peoples eyes produce more protein or lipid deposits than others’ and this wears out the contacts and makes them lose their shape. Soft contacts are broken down into even more categories other than lifespan. Daily wear soft contacts are taken out before we sleep while extended wear contacts can be left in during sleep. The most popular type of extended wear contacts is the 30-day continuous wear soft contact lense. This type was introduced in the ’80s. Initially the quality of these contacts left alot to be desired but todays versions are made of much better material. With the improved materials more oxygen reaches your eyes while you wear them. This makes them much safer and comfortable to wear.
You can also go for contacts with UV Light Blockers, in both soft and rigid types, as the ultraviolet (UV) light can be harmful for the eyes and can cause cataract. These contacts do not look any different than the normal contacts, so you do not need to worry about your appearance when you get the UV Light Blockers attached to your contacts. You can also change the color of your eyes using contacts. And, the best part is that people with perfect vision can also opt for such contacts. If you want to go for such contacts, you can choose from three types, enhancement tints, opaque color tints, and light-filtering tints. If you wish to change your light blue eyes into piercing blue ones, you need to go for enhancement tint contact lenses. While you can use the opaque color tint lenses, if you want to make your blue eyes look green. The quality of these lenses is also quite good.
Contact lenses look so real that no one can make out the difference between whether or not you are wearing them. No wonder the market for contacts is so large and not half of them need any vision correction; they wear them to improve their appearance.
