Coumadin (Warfarin) and Vitamin K
Coumadin (Warfarin) is commonly prescribed to patients at risk of developing blood clots which may cause a stroke or heart attack. This usually includes people with atrial fibrillation, valvular heart disease, carotid artery disease and severe Left Ventricle Dysfunction (LVD).
Coumadin interferes with the formation of clotting components in the body. As the levels of the clotting components decrease, clotting of the blood occurs less rapidly. Those taking Coumadin require rigid monitoring with regular blood tests.

The Ferber Method
Invented by Dr. Richard Ferber, the Ferber method is the most common way of weaning your child away from the mother, in terms of his sleep habits. It is usually successful within a couple of weeks. Nevertheless, it is important that you choose a week where you can afford to lose some sleep to begin the Ferber method.
Especially at the beginning of the process, the Ferber method does require that you spend a lot of time listening to your baby crying, and if you attempt it at a time when you are desperate to sleep, you run the risk of breaking down and allowing your child to sleep with you, or sleeping in the room with him. If you do so you risk undoing a lot of work that you will have put into the method.

Antibiotics for Heart Disease?
The search continues for that elusive single cause of heart disease. People affected by the disease and people who make their business to take care of them are still looking at every possible cause of atherosclerosis.
There is an overwhelming volume of credible information pointing at our lifestyles (too much to eat, too little exercise) are the main reasons behind alarming rise in atherosclerosis occurrence. Too much saturated fat in the diet will, in most of the people, translate into too much fat circulating in the arteries. And, too much of anything will eventually precipitate.

Back Pain Exercises
You can minimize low back pain with exercises that strengthen your hamstrings, abdominals, back, hips and thighs. Do not progress into any strengthening program until you have prepared your body aerobically for approximately 12 weeks. This prepares your body for the demands of a strength-training program. To achieve this aerobic/cardiovascular condition commit to recreational activities like swimming, walking, jogging, hiking or cycling.
Before beginning any strengthening and flexibility program you should warm up your muscles with slow rhythmic exercises for a total of 10 minutes. For example, walk indoors or outdoors at your home. Ensure you are breathing during all exercises i.e. exhale on exertion and inhale back to starting position.

Heart Healthy Diet – 3 Tips
A review study based on over 145 research articles has led its investigators to conclude there are three approaches to achieving an optimal heart healthy diet:
1. Substitute non-hydrogenated, unsaturated fats for saturated fats and trans fats. In other words, avoid foods that contain trans fats (you won’t see ‘trans fat’ on the label… instead look for ‘shortening’ or ‘partially-hydrogenated’ it takes on harmful characteristics). You should also minimize saturated fat. This is the type of fat found in high-fat dairy products (e.g. 2 % milk or whole milk etc.) and fatty meats.

Unless there are good reasons to not use these medications, anyone quitting smoking should strongly consider using them to reduce craving intensity and nicotine withdrawal side effects. Always discuss your intentions with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medication.

Surfer’s Ear
What is surfer’s ear?
The term “surfer’s ear” refers to a progressive build-up of bone within the ear canal, presumably due to long-term exposure to cold-water temperatures. The human body does not like cold water next to the eardrum and, if this occurs over a period of years, will adapt by reducing the size of the ear canal with bony growths. Surfer’s ear may interfere with the normal clearance of earwax, skin-debris, and moisture from the ear canal. If this condition is not caught the ear canal can completely and permanently close causing ear infections and/or major hearing loss.

Homeopathy vs Modern Medicine
What is the purpose of medicine and the medical community. They try to fix our disease. But why is there such a huge gap between our modern day medicine and the homeopathic, naturalistic medicine of yesteryear?
About 100 years ago, there was a quiet war going on that you’ve probably never heard of. There was a battle between biological medicine and homeopathic medicine. Can you guess who won? Medicine by chemical won out over medicine by nature.
Thus, in our society today, our medicine is governed by the AMA (American Medical Association). Today we are less human patients as we are biochemical patients. (If you’ve ever been in the hospital, you know what I mean.)
