Antibiotics for Heart Disease?

The search continues for that elusive single cause of heart disease. People affected by the disease and people who make their business to take care of them are still looking at every possible cause of atherosclerosis.

There is an overwhelming volume of credible information pointing at our lifestyles (too much to eat, too little exercise) are the main reasons behind alarming rise in atherosclerosis occurrence. Too much saturated fat in the diet will, in most of the people, translate into too much fat circulating in the arteries. And, too much of anything will eventually precipitate.

Homeopathy vs Modern Medicine

What is the purpose of medicine and the medical community. They try to fix our disease. But why is there such a huge gap between our modern day medicine and the homeopathic, naturalistic medicine of yesteryear?

About 100 years ago, there was a quiet war going on that you’ve probably never heard of. There was a battle between biological medicine and homeopathic medicine. Can you guess who won? Medicine by chemical won out over medicine by nature.

Coenzyme Q10

This enzyme is vital to the function of our bodies when produced by our bodies. It works in the tiniest of body’s inner cells (mitochondria), where it helps to fuel the metabolism and it helps to maintain normal function. So far, so good for Coenzyme Q10 supplements.

There have been well done studies showing that in several cardiac conditions (namely Heart Failure and Coronary Artery Disease – Angina), which showed that the heart cells are deficient in CoQ10. Even better for CoQ10 supporters!

The next logical step is to give patients this supplement and measure whether their body’s (mitochondrial) Coenzyme Q10 increases and also, even more importantly, whether these supplements make people die less often, have less heart attacks etc.

Colon Cancer Basics

The American Cancer Society named colon cancer the second leading cause of cancer related deaths in the U.S. Over 145,000 Americans are diagnosed annually. Approximately 60,000 are over 50, and ½ of those could have avoided cancer with testing.

In the average adult, the colon is 27 feet long, 22 feet in the small intestine and 5 feet in the large. It digests food and absorbs nutrients. Colon cancer does not begin as cancer but as painless sores in the lining of the colon. The most common sores are polyps, or abnormal growths of tissue. Many are benign, but those over 2 cm have potential of becoming malignant.

Know Your Numbers

We hear it all the time “I don’t know what my cholesterol level is, but my doctor said it was OK.” Well, this is 2009 and it’s important for everyone of us to take more responsibility for our own health; it’s Important to Know Your Numbers.

For instance, some doctors may not take cholesterol seriously and therefore say its “OK” when it’s actually high. In other cases, there may be a mistake made at the office and an “abnormal” result is filed in the “OK” pile. Also, there are different guidelines for cholesterol numbers depending on what other health problems you may have; so what is an “OK” number for one patient may not be “OK” for another.

LASIK Eye Surgery Developments

Using lasers for eye surgery is not new. In fact, doctors have been using a laser surgery method known as PRK for many years. What’s new is a popular surgical trend known as LASIK laser eye surgery.

New LASIK treatment is performed with the same kind of laser used in PRK or photorefractive keratectomy. PRK was the first surgical procedure that used laser-assisted sculpting to reshape the cornea. After PRK was established, LASIK surgery was developed.

Excimer lasers were the first refractive laser systems approved by the FDA. Initially used in PRK to treat myopia, these were later applied for the treatment of astigmatism. Eventually, doctors would begin to use these lasers in LASIK surgery to treat other refractive errors. In recent years, LASIK eye surgery developments have allowed doctors to treat myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure is thought of as a silent killer because it can pave the way for heart attacks, strokes, and kidney failure without any warning signs. People walk around and live their lives and don’t realize they are harboring something that is liable to either kill or physically disable them at any minute.

It is worrying that death from cardiovascular disease is increasing every year in developed countries and that growing numbers of men and women under the age of 40 are affected by high blood pressure. This condition affects children as well.
